The vast majority of my products are made from hardwoods which do not require staining to look spectacular, they are smoothed to a high sheen and finished with a variety of treatments depending on use, most notably a high-end wax oil such as Mono Rubino or lacquered. This not only enhances the beauty of the hardwoods but also provide protection, with care these products will last a lifetime and more.
I do not dye my woods as standard unlike many providers, I do not need to, if my concept calls for a particular grain, pattern or colour, I will endeavour to locate this in the natural world, or adjust my design to incorporate the closest to it.
If you require a specific design and there are no matches, then I can adjust the colour of the wood, if I do so, then I will use high end stains and finishes to ensure maximum durability.
As with all organic materials, wood will change as it ages, Iroko for instance starts out a light golden colour with some deep brown depths, as it ages, the colour will slowly change till it has many more dark hues, this can be slowed if needed by the use of some finishes and keeping it out of direct sunlight, but I have never been disappointed but the end result of this process nor have any of my customers, the depth of the hue in the wood cannot be replicated with stains and dyes, only through working carefully with these exotic woods, working with the grain and structure within the wood, can you get the best and quite stunning results.
Each piece is designed by myself, if you require something more personal please do not hesitate to contact me.
I sometimes create sets of Items, due to the organic nature of the hard woods, each item will be unique but will work well with the other sets. For larger items such as matching tables, it may take a bit of time to source a slab big enough to provide the hardwood that will allow for the matching to take place as each slab will have its own character, the end result will be well worth the time spent.
Some items are one offs, usually because I come across a particularly stunning piece of hardwood that requires something a bit special, normally I give these as gifts to friends, but occasionally I do sell them, once they are sold, I cannot repeat that item, but will endeavour to locate a similar piece if requested, but no guarantees.
Creation of products in hardwoods means more time is required to work the materials, the cost of exotic materials such as Wenge and Iroko, two African woods that I use in my creations are also significantly greater than the standard Oak or Beach which needs to be reflected in the price of these items, but the end effects are stunning.
